In Sept I joined the incredible cast and crew of Thousand Islands Playhouse' stage production of Once the musical! It has been a challange, a joy, and a stunning journey bringing this piece to its feet over the last month and a bit. I feel so blessed to be working with such incredible people on and off stage. If you are in the Gananoque area, come say hi!
I took my Advanced Stage/Screen Combat Certification Course in January, and am honoured and excited to officially be an AAC (Advanced Actor-Combatant). I am working slowly towards training for my teachers/directors certifications someday.
Had a wild time when my ex-agent, Compass Artist Management folded suddenly and took $600k of their clients money with them (including some of mine!). It's been pretty stressful, but has solidified several of my boundaries around contract language with my new agents. I signed with Josh Muldoon of Nolan Muldoon Agency (Ireland) in early Oct 2022, and Melanie Liatsis of Premiere Artists' Management (North America) in Mid-Oct 2022.
I got to TA my first intermediate stage combat certification at Rapier Wit in May/June, and I was beyond excited for it. The company of the Wit are like a second family to me, and to join them in any capacity is an honour. If you want to learn anything stage-or-screen-combat related, seek them out.
In April I got to see BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) live for the first time. They are master performers, and even though it's a completely different genre, it's pretty fascinating to watch them work, and to put together similarities between what works for them, and what works as a screen performer. 10/10 would recommend.
I've been working more on my writing, and am excited to see ideas slowly become functional! What a cool thing.
Started the year off assisting unarmed stage combat, and reaffirming my love for fight choreo and the art of creating safe violence.
In October I headed to Winnipeg for two months to work with Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre's Orlando, as the title character. It was my first work being out as a nonbinary actor, and also the first time I have ever played a role that moves between genders, and feels almost like I feel (genderfluid). I am forever grateful to the company for their support and belief.
I'm in post-production and pre-production on two short films as a producer - and I'm so excited to share them with you.
They are films #one, and #two , in the Transamorous Trilogy, a trilogy of shorts that follow Libbie, (Kiley May), a trans Indigenous woman, as she explores the dating world, and discovers who she wants to be.
It's amazing to be back doing things, especially with a project as important as this one. Can't wait until I can show them to you!
My episode of Jupiter's Legacy aired May 7th! Working with Josh Duhamel and Scott McCord was incredible and nerve-wracking. They were a super talented duo and working with them was some of my favourite character work in a long time. You can watch my episode here.
February has brought back some of the drive to create, and I've been making the most of it! We're currently working on expanding the Eco Emily universe. Stay tuned!
In Feb 2021 I came out publicly as a Genderfluid, non-binary person. It was a pretty rocky few months before that, but I have the best support system a human could ask for, and I am so thankful for all of them.
For anyone who hasn't yet heard, I'm Em, and I use he/him and she/her pronouns. They make me very happy!
Sadly, the Thousand Island's Playhouse performance of Once was cancelled due to COVID19, but it's for good reason as we head into the re-opening of schools in Sept. Sending my support and condolences to the company, who had to make the tough decision, and did it with grace and empathy. Fingers crossed they come through this ok.
In better news, I was able to spend the last 3.5 months with my family, something I haven't done since moving to Toronto almost 5 years ago! Now I'm officially back in #YYZ, and enjoying the rest of summer.
I also found this little snippet today, and had to share it - It's from Bloodmania, and it's pretty much exactly how COVID makes me feel.
What a crazy time! 6.5 weeks into self-isolation, I'm still finding a million things to do at home, and attempting to find that work-life balance that was non-existent pre-COVID. It's getting better! I think. Please stay home - if you can, stay safe, and above all, be kind to yourself. <3 We'll get through this.
I recently followed my wonderful agent team, Danny Friedman and Robyn Friedman, to their new agency Compass Artist Management. I am so excited for them, and to be moving with them!
I was cast as the Ex-Girlfriend and Violin player in Thousand Islands Playhouse's run of the musical Once. We're all still waiting to see if we'll able to put it up, as keeping everyone safe while preventing the spread of COVID is imperative. I will keep everyone updated as I know more.
My episode of Kim's Convenience aired on Jan 28th! I had an incredible time shooting my scene with Jean Yoon, who is not only an incredible actor, but also such a lovely person. In fact, the whole cast and crew on that show are wonderful! It was a gift to be able to work with them all. You can watch the episode here.
After an amazing shoot, Home Again is in post production heading towards festival season! I'm thrilled to have something to work on while COVID19 keeps us all indoors and being responsible.
Who would have thought we would be witnessing history at this time last year...
We've launched the Home Again Fundraising Campaign! We are fundraising for lights, equipment, sound, travel and accommodation! You can donate to the cause here.
Feel free to share it with anyone you think would like it!
I'm producing and performing in a short film!
Home Again is a darkly humorous film that follows Adam and Judith, two queer friends who reconnect on a road trip in the Californian desert after they both experience tragedy.
Directed by Brendan Meyer, written by Calla Wright, and co-produced by Link To The Past Productions and Anam Caras Productions, Home Again has a thoroughly killer team.
You can follow the facebook page here, the IG here, and the twitter here!
I started my own production company! Vicarious Playground Productions will be producing their first film, Home Again, at the beginning of October! You can keep updated on Vicarious News and my updates by subscribing to Em's Updates Newsletter on my Home page's subscription section.
I just finished my Intermediate FDC Combat Certification with Rapier Wit, and I am so happy to have spent the last three weeks with such amazing, beautiful, supportive people.
I have two exciting bookings coming up in summer and fall of 2019! I can't wait to be able to share them with you!
April 2019, I had the enormous privilege of joining the cast and crew of BUNKER BURGER in New York for the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL! It was an honour to be chosen as one of the 6 films in their Down To Earth Sci-Fi Short Film category. Some of my red carpet shots are in my Photos section.
On Monday, Feb 11th, you can catch me in CBC/Shaftesbury's Murdoch Mysteries: Season 12, Episode 15!
At the end of September I had the opportunity to join the killer cast of Bunker Burger, a short film starring Sara Mitich (Star Trek, Hero's Reborn, The Expanse), and Enrico Colantoni (Flash Point, Veronica Mars), directed by Adam Yorke, and produced by Matt Code (Mary Goes Round, Cardinals).
I got new headshots! Check them out under the 'Headshots' tab.
5 Minutes You'll Never Get Back released our new music video How Do You Like It! Support it by liking and following our social media pages.
Finished writing, producing and shooting 5 Minutes You'll Never Get Back project 'How Do You Like It' at the end of the month. What a crazy time! I have an additional mile of respect for crew members of all fields after shooting two packed days and wearing multiple production hats.
I had an incredible time shooting an episode of Bizarre Murders. What a beautiful cast and crew. It was so much fun.
Finished posting the links to the Fage Commercials we shot in Chile! Find one of them here.
Here is an interview I did with Cor Values' photographer Sabrina Youden! It covers my experiences on set, and my relationships with the cast and crew. See for yourself.
Home from a week in Chile in February, shooting a commercial. Getting sunshine in February is my JAM. Wishing for those days.
We finished filming for COR VALUES, and I'm excited to announce that VIRGINS NEVER DIE has started its festival circuit!
5 Minutes You'll Never Get Back also just finished filming its first sketch: 5 Steps To Forming A Band. Stay tuned for its release.
